About The Position

The Adolescence Research Group, directed by Joseph Allen at the University of Virginia has an opening for a post-doctoral Research Associate for a clinical or developmental psychologist with expertise relevant to longitudinal research on social development from adolescence into adulthood examining mental and physical health as well as next generation parenting outcomes. The Group is focused on understanding the role of social development from adolescence into adulthood in terms of its impact on adult relationships, mental health, and physical health (www.teenresearch.org). The Lab is also interested in the application of this research to intervention efforts, in particular to socially based efforts to enhance relationships among adolescents and young adults (https://theconnectionproject.virginia.edu ).

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in Clinical or Developmental Psychology or closely related discipline with an emphasis on adolescent social development, long-term longitudinal research, and health outcomes of social relationships is required by the start date.
  • Advanced statistical analytic capacities applicable to longitudinal data, experience is required.

  • Evidence of a growing national reputation, seen in participation in journal editorial processes, as well as ability to translate academic work into material accessible for a broader audience.
  • Ability to develop, utilize and supervise application of complex coding systems to capture social interaction behavior.
  • Prior experience successfully mentoring students in producing high quality academic reports.
  • Experience working with social-emotional interventions for adolescents and young adults.
  • A history of obtaining grant support at both the local and national levels.
