The Mellon College of Science (MCS) is home to four departments and many programs and research centers that cross disciplines. We approach scientific problems from fresh angles using creative interdisciplinary approaches while drawing on our departmental strengths in the core sciences. MCS faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized for their research in a variety of fields, including polymer science, cosmology, mathematical finance, and neuroscience. The MCS Chemistry Department is seeking Research Assistants to participate in a 12-week intensive Summer Undergraduate Research program focusing on Chemical Biology and Synthetic Biology. In this role, your will collaborate with graduate students on multidisciplinary research projects, gaining hands-on experience in molecular modeling, chemical synthesis, analytical characterization, molecular biology techniques, and cellular functional analysis to investigate complex biological systems.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and technical skills.
  • OSHA Hazardous Materials Safety Training (on the job)

Responsibilities

  • Full participation in the research program.
  • Design experiments and execute experiments.
  • Interpret experimental data.
  • Formulate new hypotheses.
  • Preparation of manuscripts for publication.
  • Attends meetings and participates in various seminars/training classes as needed.
  • Prepare reports and other dissemination and outreach materials.
  • Carry out full-time research responsibilities.
  • Work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
