About The Position

This position will assist with ongoing laboratory projects. The individual will have duties that may include sheep husbandry, sheep handling tasks, communication of animal health status to team members, collection of blood and tissue samples from research animals, assist with surgical procedures in sheep, process blood and tissue samples, prepare laboratory solutions and reagents, performing immunohistochemistry and RNAscope, use spreadsheets to compile inventories as well as to compile and analyze data, order necessary supplies for the laboratory, and perform routine organizing and cleaning of laboratory space. The individual will work with undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory. The individual may also assist in experiments performed in mice and cell culture as needed. Research efforts will focus on several projects investigating the neural circuits responsible for the neural control of reproduction. Projects will be carried out primarily in sheep but may also involve work with mice and/or cell culture.

Requirements

  • undergraduate in a science related field (Biology, Biomedical Sciences, etc.)
  • graduate degree in a science related field (Biology, Biomedical Sciences, etc.)
  • laboratory experience with immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization
  • experience with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • experience with small ruminant husbandry and handling
  • experience in a laboratory setting
  • experience with blood sampling in sheep
  • experience in a large animal surgical setting

Nice To Haves

  • experience working in a farm setting
  • experience processing neural tissue
  • experience or interest working with cell culture models
  • experience or interest with blood collection in mice
