About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a Principal Investigator, we are seeking a Research Assistant who will primarily assist in the day-to-day logistical and operational tasks for various clinical and epidemiological research studies relating to pediatric dermatology in the Department of Dermatology. The Research Assistant will interact with the investigators, collaborators, and patients in a research environment. This person will assist in carrying out research in accordance with good clinical practices in such activities as obtaining informed consent, collecting data and specimens, and following up with research participants. This person will also be writing and running standard and non-standard reports and assisting with the analysis of research data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day coordination and data collection for research studies in support of a Principal Investigator (PI) in the Department of Dermatology, Division of Pediatric Dermatology.
  • Responsibilities also include running and writing both standard and non-standard reports and analyzing routine data.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of all assigned research protocols and reporting requirements.
  • Adhere to all protocol requirements to ensure validity of clinical research data.
  • Recruit research participants, verify eligibility for studies, and obtain informed consent/assent. Interview research participants and collect data and other specimens (e.g., blood draws, urine, or saliva).
  • Schedule research visits and coordinate the activities of research participants.
  • Prepare mandatory reports and documents/protocols.
  • Perform data collection, enter data into a computer database, clean and audit data using computer software to ensure accuracy in preparation of tables, generate and summarize data into reports to share with PI and collaborators, and run routine and ad hoc reports from databases.
  • Meet regularly with PI to review data accuracy, reports, and overall study progress.
  • Interact with clinicians and other personnel to access potential research participants.
  • Maintain paper and computerized research files.
  • Assist with setting up research databases using REDCap, Excel, or similar system.
  • Prepare for and participate in audits and monitoring of studies.
  • Assist in preparation of IRB protocols and related documents.
  • Conduct literature searches to support the research group and PI.
  • Participate in weekly research group meetings; schedule meetings; create agendas; complete minutes.
  • Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.
