About The Position

The Research Assistant will contribute to studies investigating factors that influence tissue loss following neural injury. Responsibilities include performing animal surgeries, conducting behavioral testing, collecting and preparing tissue samples, and carrying out cellular assays such as western blotting and ELISA. Additional duties include maintaining accurate data logs, assisting trainees as needed, and cataloging and ordering research supplies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Biology, related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to physically interact and work with rodents.

Nice To Haves

  • Some experience with cellular assays, histology, and tissue sectioning.
  • Research experience in the area of spinal cord injury.
  • Past experience with rodent surgeries, behavioral assessment, and tissue collection.
  • Ability to conduct rodent surgeries, behavioral assessments, and tissue collection.

Responsibilities

  • Performs neural injury procedures, ovariectomies, and catheter implantations.
  • Conducts western blotting, tissue staining, and microscopy.
  • Evaluates locomotor and cardiovascular function.
  • Collects blood samples and harvests tissue from the site of neural injury.
  • Manages and orders laboratory supplies to maintain operational readiness.
  • Maintains accurate and organized data records.
