About The Position

Animals have the remarkable capacity to remember spatial locations, time intervals, event probabilities, and other relevant variables. The Maimon lab aims to understand how brains form quantitatively precise memories of such variables and how these memories guide behavior. The group's goal is to inform the nature of cognition and abstract thought—from molecules, through their effects on neural circuits, to behavior. Overview We are looking for a Research Assistant with an interest in animal and insect behavior to join our lab and assist with neurobiological experiments in fruit flies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in science (biology, chemistry, physics, etc)
  • A genuine curiosity regarding animal and insect behavior
  • Willingness to troubleshoot experiments independently
  • Careful attention to experimental detail

Nice To Haves

  • An ability to write basic code in MATLAB or Python is helpful, but not essential

Responsibilities

  • Performing fly genetics to create specific stocks
  • Designing plasmids and other molecular genetic tasks
  • Optimizing and performing single-cell RNA sequencing experiments from fly brains
  • Conducting behavioral experiments in flies
  • in silico anatomical work in insect connectomes
  • Maintenance of lab fruit fly stocks
  • Maintenance of up-to-date universal lab documents, shipment and collection of packages/mail
