About The Position

The Research Assistant Professor in Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Geriatrics at the University of Kansas Medical Center will pursue basic, translational, and/or clinical research in geriatrics and geroscience to identify therapeutic targets and interventions in a team-based research environment. This position offers opportunities for research collaboration within a multidisciplinary research community.

Requirements

  • PhD degree or equivalent. This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.
  • Established record of scholarly productivity related to basic science (cell, molecular biology, or genetics) and/or clinical investigation as demonstrated by application materials.
  • Evidence of or potential for externally funded research as demonstrated by application materials.
  • Experience with teaching or mentoring students at all degree and post-graduate levels.
  • Interdisciplinary publication experience as demonstrated by application materials.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to research on optimizing health span in older adults and exploring the fundamental mechanisms of aging.
  • Conduct research using animal models, including behavioral assessments, to investigate acute and chronic pain particularly in aging utilizing molecular biology, biochemistry, and epigenetic techniques.
  • Contribute to training and directing activities of research assistants, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows.
  • Review manuscripts for journals.
  • Participate in departmental and institutional committees.
