About The Position

The Pennsylvania State University, college of EMS is seeking to hire part-time research support. Duties will include: The successful candidate duties will involve analyzing imagery from drone surveys using ArcGIS to map patterns of sediment grain size in the rivers of Taiwan. Detailed maps of grain size and sediment cover will be produced and deliverables will include GIS shapefiles and geodatabases of the resulting mapping. In addition, the candidate may also use satellite and drone imagery to investigate the impact of earthquake and typhoon induced landslides on rivers in Taiwan, or reconstruct 3D models of landslide scars using drone imagery. This work will contribute to the research goals of the NSF grant 1933203: GEMT: Collaborative research: From grain to rock and back again: Elucidating the coordinated evolution of exhumation pathways, rock strength and topography in the Taiwanese orogen.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzing imagery from drone surveys using ArcGIS to map patterns of sediment grain size in the rivers of Taiwan.
  • Producing detailed maps of grain size and sediment cover.
  • Creating GIS shapefiles and geodatabases of the resulting mapping.
  • Using satellite and drone imagery to investigate the impact of earthquake and typhoon induced landslides on rivers in Taiwan.
  • Reconstructing 3D models of landslide scars using drone imagery.
