Position Summary: The Research Assistant will be working in the Dhar lab and will be primarily responsible for genotyping mouse colony, managing overall lab functionality such as ordering and replenishing supplies and support in experiments as needed. The Research Assistant will be learning new technologies, as well as applying existing knowledge to procedures and bench-work.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in one of the biological science or related studies OR equivalent education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained is required
  • Experience: Prior lab experience is a plus. Experience with PCR and genotyping mouse tails is desired.
  • Certifications, Licenses, etc: None
  • Work independently as well as in a team environment Be responsible and have strong time management skills
  • Able to analyze and resolve issues of moderate complexity
  • Must possess strong attention to detail and organizational skill
  • Demonstrate professional communication and interpersonal skills Professional proficiency in Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

  • Run Genotyping PCR and agarose gel electrophoresis
  • Maintains various reagent collections, and inventories
  • Orders lab supplies as needed
  • Determines methods and procedures on new assignments or day-to-day work Keeps written records of experiments and data organization
  • Troubleshoots problems and develops solutions to technical problems of moderate to high scope using independent thinking, literature, and colleagues as resources to solve problems
  • Provides interpretation and analysis of results
  • Help other researchers in mouse experiments and terminal tissue collection
  • Perform other related tasks, duties and responsibilities as required, assigned or directed.
