About The Position

The Research Assistant - Biospecimen supports the coordination and execution of translational research projects involving biospecimens. Assists in the creation and curation of biospecimen cohorts to enable tissue-based diagnostics, cancer biomarker discovery, and multi-omics profiling. Ensures accurate tracking, handling, and documentation of specimens in compliance with institutional protocols and regulatory standards. Supports molecular pathologists and collaborates with clinical, pathology, and research teams to integrate biospecimens into broader precision medicine initiatives. Coordinates the collection, verification, and non-clinical processing of human tissue specimens from clinical trials, research studies, and biorepositories. Creates curated biospecimen cohorts by annotating datasets and maintaining accurate sample metadata. Ensures adherence to IRB protocols, HIPAA regulations, and biospecimen handling standards throughout all research activities. Manages biospecimen inventory systems and generates status reports to support investigator needs. Serves as liaison between clinical, pathology, data services, and research teams to ensure proper sample handling, annotation, and compliance . Assists with research quality assurance activities, including data collection, tracking, and follow-up. Supports the manuscript preparation, grant submissions, and scientific presentations through specimen data management and project documentation. Maintains organized records of protocols, results, and annotations in databases and electronic notebooks. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a research or clinical laboratory setting preferred (internships, coursework, or capstone projects may substitute).

  • Experience with histology, molecular biology, or digital pathology platforms preferred.
