About The Position

The Knight-Georgetown Institute (KGI) is seeking a Research Analyst to join our small, high-impact team and contribute to critical research and policy initiatives. KGI was established in 2024 to connect independent research with technology policy and design, with a focus on the online information environment. The Research Analyst will play a cross-functional role on the KGI team, synthesizing academic findings across disciplines, contributing to original research, and supporting KGI's work on online platforms and generative AI. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to widely disseminated research and policy communications at the intersection of technology, social science, law, computer science, and public policy. The Research Analyst role is designed for an early career professional with a strong interest in technology policy and a desire to be deeply immersed in cross-disciplinary research and evidence. In addition to synthesizing published research, the Research Analyst will help craft KGI’s policy communications for state, federal, and international audiences. The Research Analyst will also support the curation and organization of workshops, convenings, and conferences involving leading experts working at the intersection of technology, policy, and research. Since its launch, KGI has produced influential research-backed analyses of platform governance, algorithmic design, competition in digital markets, and data access. Recent projects include the Better Feeds initiative on design of algorithmic recommender systems and evidence-based frameworks for platform design litigation and policy. The Research Analyst will contribute to these ongoing initiatives while helping to advance new research projects that inform actionable policy and industry design. A successful candidate will have strong analytical and research skills with the ability to work across multiple projects. The ideal candidate will excel at research synthesis and collaboration. Applicants should submit a cover letter describing their experience and interest in this role. The cover letter should be submitted as an additional attachment in the Resume/CV section of your application. The Research Analyst will report to the Associate Director and work collaboratively across KGI, including with KGI’s Executive Director, Research Director, Senior Technologist, Policy Analyst, postdoctoral fellows, and students. A successful candidate will build connections with Georgetown colleagues and external researchers across multiple disciplines including law, computer science, communications, and public policy.
