Job SummaryWe are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Chief Engineer to provide leadership and operational oversight for university facilities and facility systems. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of all mechanical, electrical, and utility systems while leading maintenance staff and coordinating with external vendors and contractors. The Chief Engineer will develop and implement preventative maintenance programs, manage departmental budgets, and ensure adherence to environmental, wastewater, and emissions regulations.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively in written format and oral presentations
  • Ability to multi-task and establish priorities
  • Ability to maintain organization in a changing environment
  • Exhibits initiative, responsibility, flexibility and leadership
  • Must be capable of reading electrical schematics, mechanical, and plumbing blue prints
  • Proficient in the use of Windows based office software including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Good working knowledge all aspects of plant maintenance to include but not limited to; Electrical, Boilers, Hydraulics, Compressed Air, Mechanical Equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or military experience is preferred
  • Valid District of Columbia DC‑13 Stationary Engineer/Boiler Operator License

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the safety of all operating equipment within the facility
  • Develop and train all staff in plant and emergency procedures
  • Handle the procurement of all repair parts for routine preventative, and emergency repairs
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors
  • Develop a plant wide Preventative maintenance schedule for all building, process equipment, and all plant utilities
  • Maintain the departmental budget with focus on parts, supplies and labor management
  • Assure compliance with all wastewater and emissions standards
  • Oversee outside contractors in the repairs and upkeep of plant equipment
  • Available for off-site, plants startups and special projects
