This project focuses on developing and deploying virtual sensors within the NSF Sage cyberinfrastructure platform. The student will work with Sage testbed nodes to design and implement software-based sensors that process data from edge devices and generate higher-level observations for integration into the Sage system. The work will involve developing data pipelines, integrating sensor outputs with Sage services, and testing deployments on distributed edge nodes. The project will also explore integration with high performance computing (HPC) resources to enable large-scale data processing, model execution, and advanced analytics driven by data collected from the Sage edge infrastructure. The goal is to expand the Sage sensing ecosystem by enabling new forms of virtual sensing that combine edge computing with HPC capabilities to support real-time scientific and urban-scale applications.
