About The Position

The Patient Access Representative I is responsible for gathering patient demographic and financial information and accurately entering it into the computer system. This role involves assigning patient rooms, preparing necessary documentation, and transporting or escorting patients to their assigned areas. The position also includes obtaining appropriate signatures, informing patients of hospital regulations, making bed assignments, ordering stat cleans, and communicating with the house supervisor. Key duties also involve determining the need for Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN waiver), greeting patients, scanning essential documents like physician orders, driver's licenses, insurance cards, and consents, and pre-registering scheduled tests. The representative must adhere to all safety, infection control, colleague health policies, and follow HIPAA and EMTALA regulations.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and understand the English language, and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, staff and physicians while performing their job duties.
  • Strong computer skills, Windows experience.
  • Experience with database software and mainframe information systems.
  • Ability to convey positive image and communicate tactfully and professionally with staff, patients and the public.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people and to work under pressure.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of Medical Secretary program or other general office training.
  • One- year medical office experience (scheduling, insurance, or registration).
  • Hospital experience and or medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers patient demographic and financial information.
  • Obtains appropriate signatures.
  • Answers telephone, makes bed assignments, orders stat cleans, and communicates appropriately to the house supervisor.
  • Informs patient of hospital regulations, secures armband and obtains signatures on appropriate documents.
  • Makes determinations regarding need for hospital issued Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN waiver).
  • Assures patient escorted/transported to assigned area.
  • Meets and greets patients as registration process begins.
  • Scans all needed information (physician orders, drivers licenses, insurance cards, consents, etc.).
  • Pre-registers all scheduled tests.
  • Adheres to all safety, infection control and colleague health policies and procedures.
  • Follows HIPAA, and EMTALA regulations per hospital policy.
