About The Position

The Repair Lab Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day repair lab operations for diagnostic medical imaging devices while maintaining hands on technical capability. This role ensures timely, compliant, and high-quality repairs while driving continuous process improvements, cost efficiency, and team development. The ideal candidate combines strong operational leadership with deep technical troubleshooting and repair expertise in a regulated medical device environment. The Repair Lab Manager serves as a key liaison between Technical Service, Quality, Operations, and Supply Chain to support customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electronics, or related technical field or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in medical device repair with at least 3 years of leadership experience managing a repair lab.
  • Strong hands-on experience repairing electro-mechanical, optical, imaging, or software driven medical devices.
  • Proven experience driving operational improvements and managing technical teams.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily repair lab operations, including workflow prioritization, turnaround time, and resource allocation.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of repair technicians; conduct performance reviews and skill assessments.
  • Refine and improve standard operating procedures, work instructions, and repair documentation in compliance with FDA, ISO 13485, and company quality standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, improve turnaround time, and improve quality metrics.
  • Develop a set of KPI's to monitor turnaround time (TAT), repair volumes, backlog, and cost metrics; and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Quality, GmbH HQ, Supply Chain, Customer Care, Technical Support, and Field Service Teams.
  • Ensure proper inventory control of spare parts, tools, and test equipment.
  • Support audits and inspections (internal, FDA) and address corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) in partnership with Heidelberg Engineering's Quality representative.
  • Manage and maintain the service loaner fleet, always ensuring sufficient availability of loaner devices to support contract and warranty customers.
  • Support root cause analysis for repeat failures and drive corrective and preventive actions.
  • Prepare reports and present lab performance metrics to the Head of Technical Service and leadership team
  • Perform complex troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of medical devices at module and system levels as needed.
  • Serve as the technical escalation point for challenging repairs or repeat failures.
  • Validate repair effectiveness through functional testing, calibration, and verification.
  • Participate in technical team meetings as applicable, to support knowledge sharing, technical alignment, and best-practice exchange.
  • Communicate directly with customers, as needed, to explain repair findings and address technical questions regarding their repair bills.
