About The Position

The Rental Specialist is responsible for the renting of new and used equipment and selling attachments, meeting customer’s needs, growing the market share, maintaining acceptable levels of gross profit, rental volumes and performing other general sales department duties as directed by the Branch Manager. Rental Equipment: Construction equipment used for/in earthmoving, underground construction, quarrying, crushing, paving & recycling.

Requirements

Able to communicate effectively as appropriate for the needs of customers or coworkers.
Strong focus on customer service.
Strong knowledge of heavy construction equipment used for/in earthmoving, underground construction, crushing, paving & recycling.
Good skills in operating vehicles and equipment used for demonstration purposes.
Strong ability to manage rentals.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Internet.
Basic knowledge of office machines, including copier, fax and printer.
Strong attention to detail.
Able to work effectively in a team environment.
Able to process work with accuracy.
Able to meet commitments and deadlines.
Able to complete required documentation and reports in a timely manner.
Able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
Able to work a flexible schedule as needed.
Able to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
Demonstrate openness to new procedures, technology and structure.
Able to do occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
Able to frequently load, unload and secure equipment and attachments.
Able to work flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
Able to travel out of office 10% of work day including occasional overnight stays.
High school diploma or GED required.

Nice To Haves

College degree preferred, with undergraduate coursework in business, marketing, finance or related field and/or at least three years of equivalent experience as a rental manager in the heavy equipment industry.

Responsibilities

Establish and maintain relationships with potential and existing customers to enhance the potential to rent new and used equipment.
Increase customer loyalty, market awareness and market share.
Work with potential and existing customers to understand their needs, wants, concerns, satisfactions and expectations.
Research current industry market trends and competitive influences.
Track the location and coordinate movement of machines for rental and sales needs.
Visit key rental customers with TSM’s and CESM’s as needed.
Work with the TSM’s and CESM’s to develop new rental opportunities.
Sell all attachments under $10,000.00.
Formulate rental quotes based on customer needs.
Document customer problems and dissatisfactions, offer solutions, keep customers informed and provide feedback of actions taken.
Prepare contracts.
Record and close orders.
Provide trade information as requested to customers, Territory Sales Managers and Branch Managers.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date lost rental report and prospects lists.
Follow the processes in place to better manage cleanup and damage invoicing to customers.
Monitor Whole Goods inventory including: heavy equipment, compact equipment and attachment inventory.
Control rental related expenses to assure proper margins and expense control.
Review rental and hauling accounts.
Provide status reports.
Submit reports detailing lost rental activities and evaluate the results.
Assist in rental collections when needed.
Attend training and sales/rental meetings as required to stay current with new equipment and sales promotions.
Assist with other duties assigned and directed by corporate management within the frame work of Murphy Tractor and Equipment Company, Inc.’s objectives.
