About The Position

The Rental Shop Technician is responsible for inspecting, servicing, and maintaining rental Caterpillar (Cat) machinery and aerial equipment to ensure optimal performance, safety, and readiness for customer use. This includes performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and preparing equipment for rental or return.

Requirements

  • Education: High school education or GED equivalent required. Technical, vocational, trade school education or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications in diesel mechanics, Cat equipment maintenance, or equivalent training are highly desirable. MSHA certified, or the ability to be MSHA certified, preferred
  • Experience: 2 - 5 years of proven experience as a Technician in Caterpillar equipment and aerial equipment, with proficiency in the specific models listed above, or equivalent experience with heavy equipment or mining equipment, systems, engines, and components required.
  • Technical Skills: Strong troubleshooting and repair skills in diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical components, and mechanical systems.
  • Problem-solving Ability: Ability to diagnose complex technical issues utilizing laptop computers, gauges, and instruments in all machine systems to find effective solutions promptly.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with customers and collaborate with team members.
  • Work Environment: Rental Shop Technicians work in our facility. Occasional travel and overtime may be required based on business needs. Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment that requires multitasking while maintaining a high level of organization.

Responsibilities

  • Shop Maintenance and Repair: Perform comprehensive maintenance and repair tasks on Cat equipment and aerial equipment in our shop facility. Research repair needs and order parts as needed. Maintenance and repairs include, but are not limited to, the following equipment: Bulldozers: D1, D2, D3 Excavators: 301, 303, 310, 320, Loaders:906, 908, 910, 926, 938 Boom Lifts: Electric Knuckle Boom Lift, Knuckle Boom Lift, Straight Boom Lift, Towable Boom Lift Material Lifts: Genie GH, Genie GL, Genie SLA, Genie ST, Scissor Lifts: Electric Scissor Lift, Rough Terrain Scissor Lift, Electric Scissor Lifts Vertical Personnel Lifts: One Man Lift Drivable, One Man Push Around Lift, One Man Lift Drivable Basket
  • Component Testing and Calibration: Test and calibrate Cat equipment components such as engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems to ensure peak performance and reliability.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough inspections and quality checks on repaired equipment to ensure adherence to manufacturer standards and customer expectations.
  • Training and Development: Stay updated on Cat equipment advancements, service bulletins, and technical manuals. Participate in training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Load or unload equipment or components from common carrier vehicles.
  • Comply with OSHA Safety and Health rules.
  • Any and all duties as assigned.
