About The Position

Incorporated in 1955 and encompassing more than 454 acres, the Mt. Prospect Park District provides outstanding recreational programs, events, parks, facilities and services. With seven primary facilities and 27 neighborhood parks, the Park District is an integral part of a thriving multi-generational community. District open space includes two outdoor pools, biking and walking paths, a dog park and sizable space for outdoor athletic programming. The District covers over 11 square miles and serves a region of over a quarter million residents in Mount Prospect and surrounding communities. The Mt. Prospect Park District is searching for a Rental Attendant who is responsible for setting up and overseeing the facility rentals at our Friendship Park Conservatory. The rentals may include weddings, private parties, corporate and public events within the facility's banquet room and outdoor courtyard/pavilion. Additionally, this position assists with the overall operation of Friendship Park Conservatory, while anticipating project needs, discerning work priorities, and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision. Other duties include setup of tables, chairs, and necessary rental items, garbage removal, cleanup before and after a rental, and the ability to work evenings and weekends. Good customer service, ability to remain poised and communicate well with customers is desired. Reasoning, problem-solving and attention to detail may all be necessary depending on the situations that arise. The Rental Attendant is a part-time position, averaging under 18 hours per week (less than 1,000 hours annually). The applicant must be at least 21 years old. The Rental Attendant must be able to work in the evening and on the weekend. The starting pay for the part-time Rental Attendant is $18.00 per hour, depending on qualifications. Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old to enable you to assist with events involving alcohol.
  • Must be a high school graduate, college student or college graduate, with a minimum of two years of experience in recreation, facility management, customer service and/or hospitality management. Rental/Custodial experience is very helpful.
  • Must become B.A.S.S.E.T. certified within 7 days of hire and must maintain B.A.S.S.E.T certification throughout employment.
  • Must have AED/CPR certification or obtain certification within 90 days of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
  • Must have the ability to organize all rentals and purchases related to the rental department and facility as necessary. Must be able to handle multiple projects in an efficient manner.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required. Must be able to communicate effectively with others to allow for the coordination of work, for safety purposes and for emergency situations.
  • Must possess strong customer service skills and a strong work ethic. Must have a pleasant demeanor and cooperative attitude. Must be able to work well with others, as well as independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to demonstrate good judgment and common sense. Must be able to recognize unsafe conditions and emergencies and respond accordingly.
  • Must be reliable. Reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Must adhere to all Park District policies, including dress code and appearance policies.
  • This position will be sitting, standing, walking, moving items and lifting throughout the day. Must be able to lift 50 pounds as needed. Must be able to perform tasks that require walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, climbing, moving of items, and reaching. May be exposed to various cleaning solvents. Additionally, this position will be primarily exposed to an indoor facility/office environment but may be exposed to weather conditions including rain, sun, humidity, heat, and cold.

Responsibilities

  • Properly administer all duties associated with the overall daily operations, including opening and closing Friendship Park Conservatory.
  • Provide outstanding customer service, be an enthusiastic professional, and build relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Oversee and assist with rental events, setup, take down, maintain a clean facility, and respond to situations as they arise during the event.
  • Maintain detailed records for all events, activities, their progress and/or status.
  • Maintain facility and as directed by the FPC Rental and Event Planner and Manager.
  • Be knowledgeable of and abide by all State of Illinois and City of Des Plaines liquor laws.
  • Become B.A.S.S.E.T alcohol certified within 7 days of hire (must be over the age of 21) and AED/CPR certified within 90 days of hire.
  • Count and log cash drawers, banks and deposits/close-outs on a daily basis. If discrepancies are determined, work to rectify resolution.
  • Make recommendations for both facility and operational improvements.
  • Contact Rental and Event Planner for supplies required or with additional maintenance issues/needs.
  • Provide information on Park District programs, facilities, rentals, and events to patrons.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Conservatory and Greenhouse Manager, Director of Parks and Planning and/or Executive Director. However, in an emergency, perform all duties as required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • May be required to work with other departments under assigned supervision to accomplish special tasks.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned which may be considered essential.
