This position, under specific direction from the site manager or leadership designee, performs supervised or unsupervised field maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on one or more types of renewable energy generators. The scope may include full system installation, commissioning, maintenance, system performance evaluation and troubleshooting of power and energy systems. Each Renewable Energy Technician will attend mandatory five (5) week training and certification course at the start of their employment. The exact duration will be determined based on experience and qualifications. The training is in Albert Lea, MN, and travel, accommodation, and expenses will be provided. This position work mode is on-site and is based in Silverton, Texas.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required for all levels.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license (all levels).
  • Ability to complete all required training upon hire.
  • Must meet Qualified Electrical Worker standards.
  • Required: OSHA 10, GWO BST/BTT/CoHE, GWO Slinger/Signaler (if applicable), NFPA 70E/70B.
  • Basic computer knowledge; ability to follow instructions.
  • Basic knowledge of schematics, multi-meter use, and electrical/mechanical components.
  • Deep competency in generation theory.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical safety, arc flash standards, and NEC.
  • Proficiency with advanced diagnostic tools .
  • Advanced working knowledge of solar industry best practices and the ability to effectively coach, instruct, and train less experienced technicians.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic components.
  • Familiarity with multi-meter use (Tech 2).
  • Proficient with advanced diagnostic tools and focus on routine testing/troubleshooting of electrical systems.
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of all advanced testing equipment.
  • Focus on Advanced Testing and performing live electrical work .

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all safety protocols , including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures, and lead site safety assessments.
  • Maintain company property and equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Accurately complete all administrative work, including daily maintenance logs , work orders, time tracking, and warranty/inventory documentation.
  • Attend all required safety and technical training.
  • Maintain the highest level of system integrity and support site budget control by seeking efficiencies.
  • Technician 2, 3, & 4 participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for system monitoring and fault identification.
  • Assist (Tech 1) or independently perform (Tech 2) preventative and basic corrective maintenance.
  • Perform unsupervised routine and corrective maintenance and advanced troubleshooting.
  • Performs unsupervised advanced corrective and preventative maintenance and leads major repairs on various assets.
  • Performs inspection and preventative maintenance on HV systems.
  • Performs inspection and preventative maintenance on HV systems, including substation collection/distribution systems and NERC-required maintenances .
  • Conduct commissioning and recommissioning activities (e.g., insulation testing, performance testing).
  • Leads commissioning and recommissioning activities.
  • Works with engineering teams and subject matter experts on upgrades and retrofits .
  • Collaborates with engineering teams as a subject matter expert (SME) to support continuous improvement.
  • May lead teams on routine tasks and train/oversee Technicians 1 and 2.
  • Trains and signs off on the competency of Technicians 1 through 3.
