DATACOM Traveling Remote Pilot Operator
About The Position
The Remote Pilot Operator (RPO) plays the role of the pilot and other controllers within an Air Traffic Controller training simulator. This full-time position is part of the SAIC Controller Training Solutions (CTS) traveling Datacom Team, supporting air traffic controller training services for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). RPOs operate a simulated radar display and voice communication system to mimic the actions and communications of pilots and remote ATC facilities during medium and high-fidelity training exercises. Key tasks include receiving voice commands from students, inputting appropriate entries into an automated system to simulate pilot actions, translating displayed information into correct ATC terminology, and responding to students via the Voice Communication System (VCS) using proper phraseology. The FAA employs over 14,000 air traffic controllers and relies on contractor-provided instructional services to train new specialists and provide recurrent training to current ones across various ATC facilities in the U.S. and its Territories, ensuring a high level of safety and professionalism in the National Airspace System (NAS).
Requirements
- Complete Classroom certification (pass test on airspace and procedures)
- Complete Lab certification (perform as a Remote Pilot Operator on all positions)
Responsibilities
- Play the role of the pilot and other controllers in the Air Traffic Controller training simulator
- Operate a combination of a simulated radar display and voice communication system to simulate the actions and communication of pilots and remote ATC facilities during medium and high-fidelity training exercises
- Receive voice commands from students
- Input proper entries into the automated system to simulate pilot actions
- Translate displayed information into appropriate ATC terminology
- Respond to the student via the VCS utilizing proper phraseology
