About The Position

To provide appropriate instruction in subject areas and skill development that will contribute to the students’ development as mature, able and responsible citizens.

Requirements

  • A valid Virginia teaching license in the area of teaching responsibility and successful student teaching or teaching experience is required.
  • Must be able to provide satisfactory references of teaching performance and have completed appropriate testing requirements.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board or Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
  • Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer, and to perform required tasks; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels, speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; to bend, to stoop, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at times designated.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of classroom decorum.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals by establishing clear objectives for all lessons.
  • Provides the students with a variety of instructional techniques.
  • Strives to implement the school system’s philosophy and goals.
  • Assesses the accomplishment of the students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by administrative regulations and policy.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Performs such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.
