Uses principles of Design for Reliability (DfR) to ensure the design of more reliable products with up-front modeling, materials and process characterization, and other effective risk analysis vehicles. Incorporates lessons learned from product previews into design for reliability reviews. Displays deep knowledge in multiple technical areas and acquires advanced knowledge of industry trends, competitors' products, and/or advances in various technical domains related to Hardware Reliability Engineering. Shares knowledge with others on their team and helps other engineers understand and apply advanced concepts related to reliability engineering and security. Provides recommendations on the need and the scope to perform design reliability risk analysis to management, test infrastructure development, or test execution internally or externally to management. Conducts New, Unique, Different, and Difficult (NUDDS) analysis to determine necessity of additional validation or qualification. Creates appropriate analyses, test techniques, or design/materials/process solutions to reliability challenges and produces necessary documentation. Independently develops qualification plans for complex product features based on Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA). Includes security checkpoints into FMMEA and DFMEA workflows. Suggests improvements to risk assessments as needed, including a focus on response and remediation of security vulnerabilities. Project Implementation Identifies the most significant project risks (e.g., supplier or partner delays, incomplete specs, security concerns or tool issues) at the outset of a project and develops qualification plans to address those risks. Communicates project progress/status within and external to the project team (e.g., to customers and partners) and escalates issues as necessary. Generates project implementation schedules, monitors performance against schedules, and helps determine resource dependencies for the reliability engineering aspects of complex features or products. Guides other team members to apply secure-by-design and secure-by-default principles throughout reliability testing and qualification activities, fostering a security-first culture. Supports monitoring and auditing of supplier factory operations to ensure high quality product manufacturing, as appropriate. Implements and tracks product qualification plans that describe the user experience, enable customer/partner testing scenarios, allow for design reuse and are verifiable. Reporting and Documentation Monitors and verifies that manufacturing data, test data, and diagnostics data are accurately reported into Quality Manufacturing System (QMS) databases, as appropriate. Identifies and documents lessons learned from implementation and product phases for incorporation into new platforms. Writes customized reports and reliability specifications for an established product or product feature based on audits and information from product development and qualification processes. Reviews and provides feedback on other engineers' documentation, ensuring compliance with documentation standards and security principles. Develops and reviews drafted training materials, documents, and templates for lab equipment calibration/certification, ensuring a focus on security awareness and practices. Delivers training for equipment used across a product group. Documents how various materials, components, and functions interact to help identify potential reliability or qualification issues, including risks related to hardware-based attack surfaces and firmware vulnerabilities. Assists other engineers in their documentation of these details. Controls complex test data in accordance with security protocols for identified content. Testing and Verification Develops and executes plans to qualify post-launch product changes. Ensures all automation and test equipment complies with security and access principles. Uses root cause analysis to identify highly complex problems or flaws that may affect a range of features or product design and security changes. Identifies possible solutions to novel and complex problems. Determines and implements the appropriate reliability test equipment, fixtures, procedures, and personnel training requirements for executing existing reliability qualification plans in alignment with security protocols and procedures. Partners with other groups (e.g., Information Technology [IT], Testing) to create dashboards or reports for testing and quality metrics, integrating security telemetry and anomaly detection for proactive threat monitoring. Develops external testing supplier or partner engagement plans, evaluates readiness through security capability assessments, and captures partner knowledge to ensure secure operations across the product line. Verifies that proposed corrective and preventive actions accurately address and correct known problems for a complex product feature. Ensures fixes do not detrimentally impact other features or add security risks. Develops customized reliability qualification plans for specific product features, applications, or categories, including plan and testing of RMA flows for root cause analysis process, as appropriate. Develops plans to ensure that mass-produced devices continue to meet the reliability level qualified at launch, using ongoing reliability tests and Critical to Reliability (CtR) metrics across the supply chain, as well as ensuring security protections align with evolving standards.
