E&M Electrical Reliability Engineer Overview The primary role of the Electrical Reliability Engineer is to provide technical expertise in the support of pipeline station equipment across Marathon Pipe Line (MPL). The major role of the position is to provide technical support to projects and department initiatives. Other major roles include the development of specifications, MOC approvals and Region Supervisory and Technician support and liaison. This position reports to the Electrical Reliability Engineering Manager with no indirect report requirements. The Engineer serves as a mentor to the L&SE engineers

Requirements

  • Education: minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Technical Experience: Five (5) years or more of pipeline operations, engineering or maintenance experience seem to provide the experience needed.
  • Leadership: Display ability to make technical judgments and decisions is required
  • Good Communication skills: written and oral
  • Interpersonal skills: being able to relate to various people and groups and maintain positive relationships
  • Strategic thinking
  • Experience in working around electrical parts and the construction of them, such as hands-on experience with mechanical and electrical equipment and project leader experience. This experience will arm the engineer with the ability to judge critical paths.
  • Facilitate change as required by department and company goals.
  • Be willing to embrace new technology and other initiatives.
  • Travel Requirement: 10 – 15%

Nice To Haves

  • A Professional Engineering License is desired but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical input on project requirements and potential solutions.
  • Provide electrical engineering leadership on project development, design and electrical issues.
  • Will be assigned to Technical Design Reviews (typically on Level 2+ projects) to ensure appropriate application of the standards and resolve design conflicts of the standards. L&SE completes Level 0 and 1 project designs without the need for the specialists to provide direction.
  • Perform MOC Evaluations for assigned projects.
  • Research issues and make engineered recommendations on equipment design.
  • Provide electrical input to TAPRoot investigations
  • Provide input on standard development act as owner/SME of assigned standards.
  • Project close out support – Review as built drawings for completeness as a part of Intelex close-out MOC closeouts
  • Develop standard detail drawings
  • Provide ArcFlash, Hazardous Area Classification, and ETAP reviews on large projects.
  • Develop the programing requirements for Motor Protection and Feeder Protection relays and provide training to specialists.
  • Owner of all station ETAP models. L&SE owns Rectifier and Block valve ETAP documentation and maintenance
  • Help identify where Electrical generator plans are needed and PIF the ideas.
  • Participate as an SME on MPC/Industry Communities of Practice.
  • Provide SME for commercial development/special projects, due diligence reviews, joint interest maintenance activities.
  • Work with third parties including contactors, engineering consultants, manufacturer reps, equipment vendors, the local utilities, inspectors and other pipeline companies as necessary
  • Research and evaluate manufacturers for the purchase of equipment.
  • Research, evaluate, and specify equipment to assure equipment is fit for purpose.
  • Assist Electrical Reliability Manager with setting budgets and goals for upcoming years.
  • Assist other Electrical SMEs with the planning and execution of electrical PMs as necessary
  • Maintain Technical Competency and have working knowledge of the following equipment: Low and medium voltage electrical equipment including Switchgear MCCs VFDs Transformers Motors MV circuit breakers and transrupters MV substation equipment MV cables Conduit, cable tray and other raceways Overhead and underground power distribution systems
  • Possess and maintain working knowledge of the following industry standards NFPA 70 (NEC) National Electrical Code NFPA 70E Electrical Safety in the Workplace NFPA 70B Electrical Equipment Maintenance Program OSHA 1910 Subpart S: Electrical API RP 500 Recommended Practice for Classification of Locations for Electrical Installations at Petroleum Facilities Classified as Class I, Division 1 and Division 2
  • Occasionally backfill for the Electrical Reliability Manager or other electrical specialists.
  • Identify individual career objectives and develop a plan to achieve career objectives.
