About The Position

Select Medical is seeking a Procedure/Operative Note Specialist who is responsible for the daily review of procedure logs and procedure edit reports for the purposes of identifying and following up on missing procedure/operative notes, which directly impacts reimbursement, while contributing to the completion of medical record documentation. The Procedure/Operative Note Specialist coordinates, manages, and communicates the status of procedure/operative notes with frequent interaction and updates to local hospital leadership and coding staff, including up-to-date report generation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to set priorities, and problem-solving.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency in meeting deadlines and responding to internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge of electronic medical records systems such as EPIC and the use of other software, including Microsoft.
  • Communicates effectively, professionally, and respectfully with internal and external customers.
  • Exemplifies a customer service interaction with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to adapt to changing workload and workflow without interference to the quality of work and timeliness of work.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in health information technology or an associated health care field preferred.
  • Prior work experience (minimum 1 year) in the release of information or health information department preferred.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA and privacy standards preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receives incoming requests for protected health information (via fax, phone, email) and screens request for compliance with federal/state regulation and policies governing the release of information.
  • Research patient demographics/visits and retrieves patient information from electronic medical record (EMR) an paper-based systems to fulfill the requests accurately, efficiently, and timely. Provides follow up t requestor in instances where there are no records found.
  • Prioritizes, fulfills and logs all requests for PHI. Releases information in requested format (i.e. hard copy external drive, secure email, portal and other approved secure methods.
  • Invoices and processes payments for ROI services, adhering to policy and federal/state regulation.
  • Communicates effectively both verbal and written with requestors (i.e. timely, courteous). Always maintains highest standards of patient privacy and information security.
  • Recognized and reports problems or discrepancies encountered in performing job functions.
  • Meet annual goals, quality and productivity standards established with supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
