About The Position

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Provides technical support to field personnel and contractors for the commissioning, testing and maintenance of system protection components. Provides Operations and Transmission System Controllers with details of system faults, and evaluations on the adequacy of available protection for various system configurations. Assists in troubleshooting technical problems on various electrical equipment and systems. Collaborates with other engineers and departments to provide consultation on protection adequacy, testing requirements, outage staging and final verification of protection system integrity for capital projects. Prepares and checks commissioning paperwork to ensure it meets applicable compliance requirements. Generates internal and external reports on various facets of transmission system, protection equipment and compliance efforts. Attends meetings and training sessions to increase professional knowledge and skills. REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Major in Electrical Engineering or related engineering area. Power system coursework preferred for electrical engineering majors. Utility experience preferred. Minimum Experience: No work experience required for an Associate Engineer level. Minimum of two (2) years of work experience in related area for an Intermediate Engineer level. Minimum of six (6) years of work experience in related area for Senior Engineer level. Self-starting drive to analyze diverse problems, learn about involved factors and organize effective solutions. Capacity to create documentation for compliance records, problem summaries, analysis of solutions and procedural directions. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with individuals inside and outside of the company. Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to multi-task. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). NERC PRC and/or CIP standards experience a plus. Ability to learn and utilize job specific software. Experience with any of the following programs a plus: SEL AcSELerator, SEL Grid Configurator, SEL Synchrowave, Gridscale X Advanced Protection Assessment (formerly CAPE), Subnet PowerSYSTEM Center and Esri ArcGIS.
