About The Position

The Reinsurance Accountant is responsible for the accounting and reporting of various tasks with respect to outside reinsurers, reinsurance brokers, and related parties. This role collaborates closely with the Senior Reinsurance Manager and the Senior Financial Analyst to ensure that the general ledger accurately reflects all accounting transactions and prepares timely reconciliations.

Requirements

  • Experience in reinsurance accounting, general ledger maintenance, and reconciliation.
  • Proficiency in month-end and regulatory reporting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Mathematics, Business, or Finance or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Three to five years of work experience in reinsurance accounting.

Nice To Haves

  • CPCU, MBA, and ARE certifications are desired.
  • Experience using Workday is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including strong Excel skills.
  • Experience using SQL is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly or quarterly accounting entries for reinsurance.
  • Review profit commission accounts and make necessary adjustments.
  • Prepare account reconciliations on a timely basis according to the established accounting policy.
  • Responsible for various internal/external reporting (Schedule P and Schedule F) and analysis.
  • Assist with various accounting and statutory reporting requirements, including annual and quarterly statements as well as supplemental reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation of confirmations for the annual financial statement audit.
  • Monitor reinsurance receivable/payable balances to ensure timely collections.
  • Assist with counterparty credit analysis and collateral.
  • Support the Senior Reinsurance Manager with data and information requests for treaty renewals and reinsurer audits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
