About The Position

The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state of Florida’s social services agency. The agency oversees services for child safety, fostering, adoption, domestic violence, adult protective services, refugees, homelessness, mental health, substance abuse, childcare providers, human trafficking and public assistance. Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders. Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH) is a 613-bed, licensed mental health treatment facility that provides person-centered services to adults suffering from severe and persistent mental illness. The hospital, located in Macclenny, was established in 1959 and is the largest state operated civil treatment facility. This is a highly responsible and professional position serving as the Rehabilitation Therap Supv - SES within the Recovery Services Unit. Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of one of the allied health field disciplines or one of the rehabilitative sciences.
  • Ability to supervise people.
  • Ability to oversee educational, vocational or rehabilitation therapy programs.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to write evaluation and progress reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • A bachelor's degree or advanced degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the Behavioral or Rehabilitative Sciences, Psychology, Counseling, Music Therapy, Music Education, Physical Education with course work in Adaptive Physical Education, Vocational Education, Art Therapy, Dance Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Leisure studies with course work in Therapeutic Recreation, or Horticulture Therapy is preferred
  • or five years of professional experience in a therapeutic setting providing educational, therapeutic services, or career guidance.
  • Two years’ experience supervising others.

Responsibilities

  • This is professional work supervising and directing employees. The primary duty of this position's incumbent is to spend the majority of their time communicating with, motivating, training and evaluating employees, planning and directing their work; and having the authority to effectively recommend actions such as: hiring, transfering, suspending, laying off, promoting, discharging, assigning, and rewarding or disciplining direct reports. This position requires evaluating employees against established standards and taking appropriate actions when necessary (i.e. recognition, reward, corrective action, etc.)
  • Ensures optimum customer satisfaction by preparing work schedules and assignments of subordinates.  Approves time and attendance, daily work records and leave requests.  Sets performance standards, evaluates, and prepares performance evaluations. Recommends hiring, termination, and promotion of employees. Counsels subordinates and takes appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with higher authority directives.  Provides on the job training and schedules appropriate training in coordination with the Staff Development and Training Department. Leads, organizes and participates in hospital-wide events (including all major holiday events and related activities) for individuals served by decorating, preparing refreshments, coordinating activities, etc.
  • Compiles, organizes, and analyzes data for services provided by subordinates.  Submits reports, assignments and data on time. Manages assigned buildings to ensure engineering and housekeeping issues are addressed.
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive, outcome-oriented management system by designing, coordinating, and supervising rehabilitation therapy programs designed to assist mentally ill individuals in obtaining their long term goals (i.e. learning, living, working, and recreation.) Working supervisor will maintain a caseload when necessary and lead groups for vacant postions as well as cover groups for absent staff.
  • Ensures that individuals receive treatment services as prescribed by consulting and planning with the interdisciplinary team members in order to establish goals, programs and individual therapeutic rehabilitation treatment for the people we serve.
  • Manages financial activities, prepares annual budgets for areas of responsibility, monitors requests for money and travel, and submits requests for special needs or activities. Inventories and orders supplies for assigned building, activities/events, and subordinates.
  • Ensures professional staff time is spent primarily in the delivery of treatment services by monitoring subordinate staffs' records and progress notes for the people we serve. Participates in the training and research related to program development.
  • Attends and participates in various meetings; conducts monthly program meetings with staff, and other meetings as assigned.
  • Serves on various hospital committees, workgroups and projects, as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. Will operate a 15-passenger vehicle to transport persons served in community outings.
