About The Position

This position is accountable for directing and administering the activities of the Rehabilitation and Preservation Sub-unit within the Pavement Management Unit. These responsibilities include analyzing the performance of pavement design, rehabilitation, and preservation techniques utilizing the department’s pavement management system; and recommending rehabilitation and preservation solutions to unique pavement performance problems. This position is also responsible for recommending revisions to existing policies or development of new policies, procedures, specifications for rehabilitation, and preservation strategies to ensure Illinois utilizes cost-effective solutions at the optimum time.

Requirements

  • Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois.
  • Five years of experience in civil engineering.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening.
  • Requires occasional statewide travel and limited out-of-state travel with overnight stays.

  • Five years of supervisory experience.

  • Working knowledge of engineering related procurement procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and administers the activities of the Pavement Design Sub-unit.
  • Analyzes the performance of pavement design, rehabilitation, and preservation techniques using the department’s pavement management system.
  • Establishes defensible policies, procedures, and specifications for rehabilitation and preservation strategies to ensure Illinois utilizes cost-effective solutions at the optimum time.
  • Plans, organizes, and conducts research studies and special investigations into specific rehabilitation/preservation problems, and recommends appropriate solutions.
  • Provides timely, workable solutions to technical questions posed by the department's engineers.
  • Ensures state-of-the-art procedures are being used for rehabilitating and preserving Illinois’ pavements by developing and maintaining the pavement rehabilitation and preservation procedures, and teaching the current procedures as needed for the department.
  • Trains, motivates, and evaluates subordinate personnel to ensure their effectiveness.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
