About The Position

The Rehabilitation Aide will join the Memorial Health Team, primarily supporting Physical and Occupational Therapists. This role involves preparing and maintaining treatment areas and equipment, managing supplies, and assisting therapists with patient treatments, including ambulation and gait training. The aide will also perform quality assurance checks on equipment, assist with inventory tracking, and handle various clerical duties such as answering phones, scheduling patients, and managing medical records. The position requires maintaining professional competency and exhibiting behaviors aligned with Memorial's core values.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Competency by education, training or experience in direct patient care support activities
  • Two (2) years of Physical/Occupational Therapy Aide or Patient Care Technician experience

Responsibilities

  • Obtains equipment and supplies and prepares them for use by patients (e.g., hydrotherapy tanks, hydrocollator packs, paraffin baths, etc.)
  • Prepares and maintains treatment areas (e.g., changes linens on plinths; cleans equipment, storage shelves, tables after use, etc.)
  • Maintains level of supplies required for patient use according to department standards; transports patients, records, equipment, or supplies to and from department as directed.
  • Assists Physical Therapist or Occupational Therapist with patient treatment as directed and supervised
  • Supports patients during ambulation and/or gait training to prevent injury
  • Observes/supervises patients during treatment; notifies supervising therapist of patient distress or malfunctioning equipment.
  • Assists patients in preparation for treatment and at conclusion of treatment (e.g., assists patients to dress, undress, don treatment gowns; removes and replaces braces, splints, slings Positions patients on treatment tables, in whirlpool, etc.).
  • Cleans and maintains department equipment according to cleaning and maintenance schedule
  • Performs quality assurance/ safety checks on equipment (e.g., checking and recording hydrocollator and paraffin bath temperatures) according to department policies and procedures.
  • Assists in maintaining an organized tracking system of purchase requisitions and equipment inventory (e.g., heel lifts purchased vs. heel lifts charged).
  • Performs various clerical duties to assist department secretary (e.g. answers telephone and responds to inquiries; greets and directs patients and public Schedules patients for treatment; maintains files, sorts medical records, prepares charts; etc.).
  • Develops and demonstrates knowledge of current advances in Physical and Occupational Therapy to maintain professional competency through literature review, peer review or continuing education.

  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
