About The Position

The Rehab Transportation Coordinator is responsible for the safe, timely, and customer‑focused transportation of patients, visitors, and staff across post‑acute care settings, hospital campuses, and designated off‑site locations. This role provides high‑quality, non‑medical support while coordinating transport schedules, ensuring operational efficiency, and maintaining excellent communication across departments. The Rehab Transportation Coordinator also transports equipment, documents, and supplies essential to post‑acute care operations as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of professional driving experience OR experience in customer service, transportation, or hospitality.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist passengers with mobility devices.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow schedules, maps, and written instructions.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a hospital, healthcare campus, senior living community, or similar environment.
  • Experience operating multi passenger vans or transport vehicles.
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (hospital may provide training).

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate hospital transport vehicles to move patients, visitors, and staff between hospital facilities and designated locations.
  • Provide courteous, customer‑focused service while assisting passengers with boarding and exiting the vehicle.
  • Transport equipment, supplies, and documents as assigned, ensuring items are delivered in a timely and secure manner.
  • Follow all hospital policies, traffic laws, and safety guidelines during operation of the vehicle.
  • Assist patients with mobility challenges, including helping with wheelchairs, walkers, or personal items (non‑clinical support only).
  • Ensure passengers are comfortable and secure throughout transport.
  • Offer directions and general assistance to visitors and staff as needed.
  • Perform daily vehicle inspections (fuel, fluids, tires, lights) and report maintenance needs promptly.
  • Keep vehicles clean, orderly, and stocked with required materials.
  • Document mileage, fuel usage, maintenance, and trip logs accurately.
  • Communicate with system transfer center and various hospital departments to coordinate timely pick‑ups and drop‑offs.
  • Report delays, safety concerns, or incidents immediately according to hospital procedures.
  • Demonstrate a friendly, patient-centered approach to all interactions.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to uniform and identification policies.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and positive, compassionate demeanor when interacting with patients, families, and staff.
  • Follow HIPAA and confidentiality guidelines when transporting patient information or speaking with passengers.
  • Participate in safety training, defensive driving courses, and required hospital education programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
