About The Position

The incumbent in this position will make an immediate and meaningful impact in the lives of Floridians. They perform duties that guarantee qualified health care professionals licensed or applying to be licensed under the Florida Board of Nursing (CNAs, LPNs, RNs, and/or APRNs) can work in the state of Florida and provide Floridians the health care they need in order to lead healthier lives. The incumbent will also support those currently working in health care professions who are so critical in any public health emergency through increasing the number of qualified health care professionals who can practice in the state. The incumbent works in the CNA/Agenda/Support Unit and is expected to demonstrate, model, and reinforce the agency’s fundamental values of innovation, collaboration, accountability, responsiveness and excellence at all times. The specific duties and responsibilities of the position include: All supervisory duties for six (6) Regulatory Specialist III. This includes, but is not limited to, hiring and selection, developing performance plans, conducting performance appraisals, planning and directing the work of direct reports, approving leave, and taking disciplinary action as appropriate. The incumbent also is responsible for ensuring direct reports have the appropriate training, tools and authority to meet performance expectations, including a working knowledge of the procedures, statute and rules governing nursing licensure and exemptions from disqualification of employment at AHCA regulated facilities. Running appropriate database reports daily to adequately monitor the workflow of their direct reports. Exercising independent judgment (in consultation with staff) in determining licensure and exemption eligibility or the need for further review by the full Board of Nursing regarding files with criminal/disciplinary/health histories and exemptions. Advising and providing counsel to MQA Call Center staff, staff in the Board of Nursing, and other stakeholders regarding licensure and exemption from disqualification for employment at AHCA regulated facilities, regulation, and procedures. Ensuring all files requiring full Board review are correctly prepared and reviewed for errors and redaction of confidential information prior to Board meeting deadline(s). Monitoring applications with Board ordered conditional approval and tracks their progress through database. Analyzing consumer complaints, investigating, and resolving consumer concerns or ensuring complaints are routed to the appropriate unit or department for handling. Serving as a liaison with the Agency for Health Care Administration regarding exemption for disqualification of employment and criminal offenses. Working directly with the manager over the Background Screening Units at AHCA and DOH to identify and research any abnormalities relating to applicants seeking an exemption from disqualification of employment. Serving as a liaison between the Board office and MQA System Support Services (SSS) on concerns with the Licensing and Enforcement Information Database System (LEIDS), including, but not limited to, assisting with set-up and changes to form letters and data clean-up. Leading by example, including dressing appropriately based on the standards outlined in the Department’s dress code and behaving according to required training and policies.
