The Registration Specialist performs a variety of administrative and clerical duties to manage patient registration and patient financial obligations. This includes obtaining demographic, billing, and insurance information from patients, families, or legal guardians, and accurately entering it into the registration/billing systems for service and claim processing. The specialist is responsible for scanning insurance cards and photo identification, and providing patients with information regarding insurance, bill payments, and hospital procedures. The role may also involve completing managed care responsibilities such as obtaining pre-certification and authorizations. Key tasks include preparing and obtaining signatures for standard consent forms, notice of privacy practices, and other necessary registration paperwork, as well as collecting deposits, co-payments, deductibles, and patient liability payments. The specialist will also prepare patient armbands for identification, balance daily receipts and cash drawers, follow up on accounts flagged by the system, initiate various screenings for coverage, complete Advanced Beneficiary Notices as needed, and manage patient scheduling (scheduling, rescheduling, or canceling appointments). Additionally, the position requires checking for order completeness and validating orders against scheduled services.
