About The Position

Collects patient demographic and insurance information for emergency department services. Collects insurance, co-pay, and deductibles at point of service. Quickly and efficiently expedites the registration process while providing a positive first impression of the hospital.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Handle With Care certification required within 30 days of orientation and maintained annually
  • Critical thinking and decisive judgment
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Attention to detail and data accuracy

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s Degree preferred

Responsibilities

  • Ensures all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is obtained and entered in the registration system accurately and timely
  • Distributes and explains forms, documents, and educational handouts to patients or family members
  • Meets with patients or caregivers before or after admission to obtain required information and documentation
  • Provides explanation of registration processes and addresses questions or concerns
  • Communicates with physician offices, nursing staff, and other departments regarding admissions and patient placement
  • Verifies insurance benefits and obtains precertification/authorization when required
  • Determines and collects required payments including co-pays and deductibles or refers patients to financial counselors when needed
  • Review and comply with Lifepoint Code of Conduct and all relevant company and division policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned
