About The Position

VCA Emergency Animal Hospital & Referral Center, located in the heart of San Diego’s Mission Valley, is seeking an experienced Credentialed Veterinary Technician to join our team and be part of the new opening of our state-of-the-art, 26,000 sq. ft. hospital at: 7675 Mission Valley Rd., San Diego, CA 92108 In this position, you will support our doctors while creating a positive, low-stress experience for clients and patients. Requirements

  • 1–2 years of proven experience in a veterinary hospital (ER/Specialty experience strongly preferred)
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Compassion for pets and people, with awareness of patient stress signals
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work safely around potential hazards (allergens, zoonotic diseases, noises, odors, animal bites/scratches, waste, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Placing and maintaining IV catheters and central lines
  • Administering IV fluids, CRIs, and medications per DVM orders
  • Performing blood draws, including arterial samples
  • Setting up and monitoring oxygen therapy (nasal cannula, oxygen cages, ventilator)
  • Managing feeding tubes (nasogastric, esophageal, PEG)
  • Continuous monitoring of critically ill or post-op patients
  • Assessing vitals: HR, RR, temperature, BP, SpO₂, pain levels
  • Assisting with physical exams and patient assessments
  • Surgical preparation, anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and filling prescriptions
  • Performing laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging
  • Providing compassionate nursing care for hospitalized patients
