About The Position

Our SAGE Concord location opened a brand-new state-of-the-art facility in the summer of 2022! It is the largest Specialty and Emergency Hospital in the East Bay area. Our next-generation facility has allowed SAGE Concord to significantly expand its Emergency, Specialty, and Urgent Care services to the growing East Bay community. Our Specialty offerings consist of Emergency, Critical Care, Cardiology, Integrative Medicine, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Neurology, and Surgery. This new facility features multiple advanced Surgery suites, as well as sophisticated Trauma response and Critical Care capabilities. Our vision in SAGE Concord is to continue the expansion of SAGE’s existing services to meet the ongoing demand for additional services in our community. We are on the hunt for an experienced Registered Veterinary Technician to join our CCU team! You will play a crucial role in partnering with our CCU doctors, providing top-notch customer experiences, and delivering outstanding patient care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Valid CA RVT license required
  • At least 2+ years of clinical experience, preferably in a CCU setting
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Consistent and reliable ability to perform mathematical calculations for drug doses, CRIs, client invoices and estimates, and other position-related calculations
  • High level of venipuncture skills, math calculations, and patient handling
  • Only candidates available to work the Wednesday through Saturday schedule will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor vital signs (heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, oxygen saturation)
  • Administer and adjust oxygen therapy (oxygen cage, nasal cannula, etc.)
  • Assess and manage patient pain and comfort
  • Turn, reposition, and provide supportive care to recumbent or post-surgical patients
  • Place and maintain IV catheters, central lines, and urinary catheters
  • Collect blood samples (jugular, cephalic, saphenous, arterial)
  • Administer IV fluids, medications, and continuous rate infusions (CRIs)
  • Perform and interpret point-of-care diagnostics (blood gas, lactate, i-STAT)
  • Respond to emergencies and participate in CPR
  • Assist with emergency procedures (thoracocentesis, pericardiocentesis)
  • Triage incoming patients and communicate condition severity
  • Collaborate with criticalists, ER doctors, and the veterinary team
  • Prepare for and assist with diagnostic imaging (radiographs, ultrasound, CT/MRI)
  • Run and interpret in-house laboratory tests (CBC, chemistry, coag panels)
  • Collect and process lab samples (urine, feces, cytology, cultures)
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records and treatment sheets
  • Communicate patient status updates to doctors and support staff
  • Update clients on patient condition as directed by DVMs
  • Monitor anesthesia and assist with surgical recovery in critical cases
  • Keep patients clean, dry, and comfortable
  • Provide enrichment for long-term or neurologically impaired patients
  • Advocate for patient pain management and quality of life
  • Stock and maintain emergency supplies and equipment (crash carts, ventilators, syringe pumps)
  • Maintain cleanliness and biosecurity in the CCU
  • Demonstrate calmness under pressure and emotional resilience
  • Apply strong critical thinking and multitasking skills
  • Collaborate effectively with team members
  • Show compassion and empathy toward patients and clients
