About The Position

CVP seeks a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) to join our team in providing our Nation's Veterans with high-quality vascular ultrasound diagnostic services at the VA New Jersey Healthcare System – East Orange Campus, located at 385 Tremont Avenue, East Orange, NJ 07018. Working hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.

Requirements

  • Ability to successfully undergo a Government-sponsored background investigation (US Citizenship required).
  • Must be a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or a Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) certified by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI); certification must be current, full, and unrestricted.
  • Must hold a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice Vascular Ultrasound Technology in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience performing vascular ultrasound studies on advanced modality equipment is required; verifiable evidence of education, training, and experience will be required.
  • Must comply with VA qualification standards for Medical Instrument Technician, GS-0649, as outlined in VA Handbook 5005/119, Appendix G25.
  • In-depth knowledge of vascular anatomy and physiology, vascular disease, and pathology.
  • Proficiency in Doppler imaging, waveform analysis, and intracranial examinations.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform and interpret a wide range of vascular studies, including peripheral, cerebral, and abdominal circulation studies.
  • Must possess the ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently.
  • Must not appear on the HHS OIG List of Excluded Individuals/Entities.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is preferred.
  • Previous experience working within a VA or federal healthcare environment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with CPRS, VistA Imaging, and VA electronic health record documentation practices is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and specialized vascular ultrasound examinations including Doppler imaging, waveform analysis, intracranial exams, and studies of peripheral, cerebral, and abdominal circulation.
  • Prepare patients for sonographic procedures by assessing patient needs, providing pre-test education, explaining procedures, and ensuring patient understanding of discharge instructions.
  • Capture, document, and record images and findings in accordance with ARDMS and CCI practice guidelines and technical standards; document preliminary reports and clinical notes in CPRS/VistA, including notes for any pending or delayed cases.
  • Communicate findings clearly and in a timely manner to referring providers; review consults and schedule patients appropriately in accordance with VHA Directive 1230, Outpatient Scheduling Management.
  • Review all pending cases daily and take appropriate action to ensure timely completion in accordance with VA clinic wait time and consult completion requirements.
  • Perform quality control measures to ensure optimal image quality; evaluate results for clarity and accuracy and take corrective action where appropriate.
  • Maintain, clean, and disinfect ultrasound equipment and workspace per standard operating procedures; recognize and address equipment malfunctions or refer for repair as needed.
  • Ensure patient safety and infection control compliance in accordance with all facility, VA, and Joint Commission policies and standards.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement activities, staff meetings, and committee meetings as required by the VAMC Chief of Service or designee.
  • Adhere to all applicable federal, state, and local laws, VHA directives, and place-of-performance policies including HIPAA, the Privacy Act, and VA information security requirements.
