About The Position

As a Registered Nurse on the Mother-Baby unit, the 67-bed unit, 30 beds of which are designated for the newborn. Mother-Baby unit- The unit provides nursing care to post-partum patients, newborns, ante-partum patients and women with gynecological conditions. Newborn babies who are stable and are not in critical care are admitted to the Regular and Transitional Care Nursery. The following medical diagnoses are common among those admitted: ¨ placenta previa ¨ pregnancy-induced hypertension ¨ gestational diabetes ¨ premature rupture of membrane ¨ preterm labor ¨ hyperemesis gravidarum ¨ normal vaginal delivery ¨ cesarean section ¨ non-infectious gynecological conditions The Maternity Staff Practice Mother- Baby Nursing and promote rooming- in; one nurse cares for both mother and baby. This family centered approach fosters mother/newborn bonding. ASN and BSN new graduates welcomed! Carries out patient care responsibilities with emphasis on decision-making related to the steps in the nursing process to include assessment, diagnosis, and identification of expected outcomes, planning, implementation and evaluation. Provides competent, safe and compassionate care based on established BronxCare Health System Patient Care and Nursing Standards. As a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, formulates the initial plan of care with the provider (physician or nurse practitioner) and collaborates with them to implement a comprehensive patient-centered plan of care to achieve expected outcomes; utilizes principles of assignment and delegation consistent with the NY State Nurse Practice Act.

Requirements

All RNs; graduation from an accredited school of nursing
Experienced RNs; progressive clinical experience in specialty
New York RN Licensure – Current Registration
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS)
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC - Emergency Services after one year)
Associates
Bachelor’s

Clinical Responsibilities• Collects, assesses and documents patient healthcare data. Uses innovative strategies to direct the interdisciplinary team, including patient/family to identify a plan of care and outcomes that are realistic and measureable.• Leads interventions in the coordination of patient care in a safe, timely and appropriate manner. Applies, promotes, and oversees the escalation process.• Considers needs and behaviors of specific patient age groups and cultural groups in all patient care activities. Documents interventions per hospital standard.• Educates the patient/family regarding health status and established plan of care. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to modify expected outcomes. Coordination/Leadership/Responsibilities• Participates in patient throughput - bed flow (e.g. room turnover, wait time).• Complies with New York State Nurse Practice Act and regulations of relevant outside agencies, e.g., NY State Department of Health, The Joint Commission, regulatory requirements etc.• Demonstrates ability to differentiate those activities which are in scope of professional nursing practice and those that may be delegated to ancillary staff.
Education/Development/Responsibilities• Complies with annual education and mandatory/regulatory requirements. Also ensures that nursing staff complies with annual and mandatory skills, EHS Annual Health Assessments, and HealthStream competencies for staff under her/his supervision.• Serves as a support, resource and preceptor for nursing staff and students. Seeks opportunities to develop other staff.
