Job Description I. JOB SUMMARY The Registered Respiratory Therapist treats people with disorders affecting the cardiopulmonary system such as asthma, emphysema, pneumonia, cardiovascular disorders and trauma. This position provides care and life support to patients in the emergency room, intensive care units and general hospital areas as we as specialty areas. II. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES a. Works closely with physicians, nurses and other associates to develop a plan of care for patients with acute and/or chronic cardiopulmonary disorders. b. Effectively and efficiently diagnose and administer respiratory therapy modalities and medications for breathing disorders. c. Interview patients, perform chest exams and analyze tissue specimens. d. Manage ventilators and artificial airway devices for patients who can’t breathe normally on their own. e. Trained in labor and delivery and participate in C-sections and normal deliveries as needed. f. Plays a prominent role in responding to Code Blue or other urgent calls for care. g. Performs care according to the population served on the unit as referenced in the Administrative, Scope of Services Policy. h. Performs other duties as needed or assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved respiratory therapy program
  • Nationally Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Currently licensed by the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts
  • Current BLS certification

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS, PALS and NRP certification
