About The Position

Position: Registered Peer Support Specialist Company/Location: Kentucky River Community Care/Letcher County Employment type: Regular Full-Time Credentials/Requirements: High School diploma or equivalency. Person in recovery from substance use at least one year from recovery and must be able to drive a company vehicle to transport clients. Temporary Registered Peer Support Specialist or Registered Peer Support Specialist Certification, with required recovery period. Special skills/knowledge: Ability to operate basic office and electronic devises and their related software. Primary functions: 1. Provide peer-based support by using lived experience to build trust and rapport with individuals. 2. Assist with resource navigation, connecting individuals to resources within and outside of the program that support recovery and daily living. 3. Offer motivational support through nonjudgmental conversation, personal goal-setting, and encouragement in pursuing recovery. 4. Utilize crisis intervention by helping de-escalate emotional or substance-related situations and linking to emergency services as needed. 5. Engage in advocacy to ensure client needs are recognized and addressed within healthcare, housing, and legal systems. 6. Provide education on substance use, harm reduction, recovery options, and wellness strategies to support informed decision-making. 7. Facilitate or co-lead peer support groups and recovery meetings as part of group facilitation responsibilities. 8. Maintain contact for follow-up support, offering continued encouragement and helping individuals stay connected to recovery pathways. 9. Provide transportation support by driving individuals to appointments, or other essential services that support recovery and daily living.
