About The Position

Responds to patient’s immediate needs by providing nursing care. Uses the nursing process of assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and teaching while supervising individual patient care. Accepts responsibility for direction of co-workers in the implementation of patient care. Position Accountabilities · Perioperative Assessment/Planning. Nursing process involves perioperative assessment of the patient through interview prior to the scheduled procedure; identification of the patient with verification of mandatory documentation; preoperative teaching and assessment of data to identify and meet individualized patient care goals for limited pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. · Ambulatory (Admission/Discharge). Assumes responsibility of admission/preparation of patient for surgery or treatment. Treatment is done according to surgical checklist and identified as: V.S., surgical attire, administering IV/medications, enema, application bracelet(s), etc. Responsible for necessary additional forms or diagnostic tests and completeness of chart prior to patient’s transfer to the operating room. Provides patient care upon return from recovery room until patient is ready for discharge. Upon discharge, reviews/verbalizes post operative home instructions with patient and family. Discharges patient with a responsible person to their vehicle. · Intra-operative Nursing. Implementation of nursing process occurs transferring patients to the O.R., identification of patient with patient needs, completion of chart, creating/maintaining asepsis, providing equipment/supplies based on patient needs, performs sponge, needle, instrument counts, administers drugs/solutions as ordered, physiological monitoring the patient during surgery, monitor/control environment and respect patients’ rights by providing privacy and maintaining confidentiality. Postoperative Nursing. Provides nursing care for the immediate post-operative patient through systemic assessment, placement of oxygen and monitoring devices to evaluate vital signs, maintain IV rate, fluids and site, check for patency/safety of all drains, administers appropriate mediation(s) and other nurse functions to include, e.g., dressing, foley, NG, suction. Assess/implement discharge from PAR through Aldrette system and communicates pertinent patient information to the registered nurse on the nursing unit when returning a patient. Assess/evaluate the patient response to surgical intervention by interview or phone call. · Laser. Is an operator who functions under the supervision of the laser safety officer and the OR Manager and has been independently trained by the laser manufacturer. Assumes responsibility for the safe operation of either the CO2 or Yag laser, implements safety check of equipment and other safety factors such as warning signs, eye protection, and smoke evacuation. Responsible for cleaning of equipment and proper disposal of any hazardous material. Proper documentation of laser information on laser record. · Demonstrates understanding and commitment to the organization’s mission, vision and values.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved Registered Nurse program
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio with current CPR certification.
  • Minimum experience of one (1) year Operating Room Nursing or five (5) years Medical/Surgical Nursing is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Operating Room Nursing (CNOR) is preferred.
