The Clinical Support Triage RN serves as the primary clinical triage nurse for the ophthalmology practice and is responsible for assessing, prioritizing, and coordinating urgent and non-urgent patient care needs across all subspecialties. This role functions as a critical clinical decision-maker, ensuring safe, timely, and appropriate patient access to care through comprehensive telephone and electronic triage. The Triage RN facilitates communication between patients, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members while autonomously managing clinical concerns, surgical questions, medication issues, and post-operative complications. This position supports patient safety, regulatory compliance, and clinical quality outcomes through accurate assessment, documentation, escalation, and follow-through of all patient care concerns.

Requirements

  • Current Illinois RN license required.
  • Two (2) years RN experience in ophthalmology, ambulatory surgery, emergency triage, or high-volume medical specialty preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical triage, care coordination, and patient education strongly preferred.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Advanced knowledge of ophthalmic conditions, treatments, and urgency recognition.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to independently triage high call volumes while maintaining accuracy and patient safety.
  • Ability to identify vision-threatening conditions requiring immediate intervention.
  • Excellent communication and patient education skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and prioritization abilities.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical documentation systems.
  • Positive representation of organizational mission and values.
