The Perioperative 101 Nursing Program is designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary for a nursing career in the operating room. This program provides the high-quality didactic and clinical experiences needed to help you become a well-rounded, fully competent circulating perioperative registered nurse with foundational scrub skills. The Perioperative RN coordinates the surgical team in all aspects of OR activities, provides for optimum perioperative nursing care and functions as the patient's advocate. A selection committee will carefully review each candidate's completed application and supporting documentation before the pre-screening and interview process will begin. Upon acceptance into the program, candidates will be paid an RN OR hourly rate and are benefit eligible as of day 1 of employment. Candidates who complete the program will be awarded contact hours from the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) and be eligible to take the Perioperative Certification exam after completing two years of perioperative nursing. The RN in the Operating Room circulates, scrubs and coordinates the surgical team in all aspects of OR activities, providing for optimum perioperative nursing care to patients. Our state-of-the-art hospital in Jacksonville includes 34 operating rooms that include an IMRI OR suite and a dedicated endovascular OR suite. We use the best, most modern equipment and advanced technologies to create an environment that merges the art of healing with the science of medicine. Clinical competency to include, but not limited to, guidelines and standards of care, policies and procedures; patient and staff safety policy and procedures; technical preparation, operation and care of equipment. Understands team concept in working with others. Possesses ability to prioritize in dealing with the needs of the surgical team during a case. Ability to function under stress and pressure. Professional attitude and sense of confidentiality. Stands and walks almost continuously during work schedule. Transportation of audiovisual equipment. Moderate to heavy lifting. Exposure to cuts, burns, bio-hazardous materials. Periop 101 program opportunities may include: Plastics/Eyes, ENT/Pain, Orthopedic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Vascular, Cardiothoracic, GYN, Urology, and General Surgery. The tentative start date for the program is February 9, 2026. Please note, this position will only be posted through 11:55pm EST on 12/8/25. Relocation is offered for those outside of a 70-mile radius. A 30-month commitment to Mayo Clinic is requested if an offer is accepted for this training program. Qualified applicants must live within a reasonable driving distance to campus to meet 45-minute on-call requirement. The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Nursing Care Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Successful sponsorship will require state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification.
