About The Position

SUMMARY: This position is responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care duties which include assisting in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited or NLN-approved RN program. BSN preferred.
  • BLS from the American Heart Association (or obtained during orientation) and maintain certification throughout employment
  • Current state nursing license or permit to practice nursing in the State of Texas
  • Minimum of one to three (1-3) years working as a Registered Nurse. Three to five (3-5) years of related experience, preferred
  • Proficiency in basic computer programs and operating systems, such as Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Ability to communicate with patients, families, staff, physicians, support agencies, vendors, and others
  • Ability to remain calm during stressful situations
  • Ability to respond to pages
  • Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions
  • Ability to repeatedly twist, squat and stoop
  • Bending, lifting (minimum of 25 pounds), grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing, and pulling
  • Exposure to infectious organisms, agents, and toxic chemicals
  • Occasionally subject to irregular hours
  • Must be able to see with corrective eye wear

Nice To Haves

  • Three to five (3-5) years of related experience, preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, preferred
  • EKG machine proficient

Responsibilities

  • Interviews patients, measuring vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), venipuncture and procedure as directed by the physician
  • Documentation is recorded in the Electronic Medical Record in accordance with IPM guideline
  • Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients
  • Assists in covering the front desk as required
  • Executes prescribed treatments and medical interventions, administers prescribed medications, and monitors and documents treatment progress and patient response
  • Delegates as allowed under the Nurse Practice Act
  • Refers to/consults with physicians, other health providers, and community resources to prevent/resolve problems or concerns
  • Educates patients and families about health status, health maintenance, and management of acute and chronic conditions
