SUMMARY: This position is responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care duties which include assisting in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Independence Physician Management (IPM), a subsidiary of UHS, was formed in 2012 as the physician services unit of UHS. IPM develops and manages multi-specialty physician networks and urgent care clinics which align with UHS acute care facilities. It also provides select services for the Behavioral Health division of UHS. Through continuing growth, IPM operates in 11 markets across six states and the District of Columbia. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited or NLN-approved RN program. BSN preferred.
  • BLS from the American Heart Association (or obtained during orientation) and maintain certification throughout employment
  • Current state nursing license or permit to practice nursing in the State of Texas
  • Minimum of one to three (1-3) years working as a Registered Nurse. Three to five (3-5) years of related experience, preferred
  • Proficiency in basic computer programs and operating systems, such as Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Ability to communicate with patients, families, staff, physicians, support agencies, vendors, and others
  • Ability to remain calm during stressful situations
  • Ability to respond to pages
  • Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions
  • Ability to repeatedly twist, squat and stoop
  • Bending, lifting (minimum of 25 pounds), grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing, and pulling
  • Exposure to infectious organisms, agents, and toxic chemicals
  • Occasionally subject to irregular hours
  • Must be able to see with corrective eye wear

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, preferred
  • EKG machine proficient

Responsibilities

  • Interviews patients, measuring vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), venipuncture and procedure as directed by the physician
  • Documentation is recorded in the Electronic Medical Record in accordance with IPM guideline
  • Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients
  • Assists in covering the front desk as required
  • Executes prescribed treatments and medical interventions, administers prescribed medications, and monitors and documents treatment progress and patient response
  • Delegates as allowed under the Nurse Practice Act
  • Refers to/consults with physicians, other health providers, and community resources to prevent/resolve problems or concerns
  • Educates patients and families about health status, health maintenance, and management of acute and chronic conditions
