A Brief Overview The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for managing the individualized patient care by promoting and restoring patients' health through the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; and supervising assigned team members. Administers conscious sedation medication to Endoscopy patients per organizational policy and procedures. The RN will provide technical assistance to the physician during the Endoscopic procedure and ensures the Endoscopic suite is adequately prepared for the procedure. Monitors PAR levels of the Endoscopy equipment and supplies. Cleans and sterilizes the Endoscopic scopes and equipment as needed. As an RN for Endoscopy, being on-call will be required. What you will do Performs endoscopy procedure set up, including physician preference and expectations. Tests equipment for proper functioning and availability. Assists the RN/Physician with proper positioning of the patient. Maintains standards and principles of asepsis. Demonstrates proper aseptic technique in handling equipment and supplies. Handles, cleans, and disinfects scopes properly. Compliance of Universal Protocol, including procedural Time-Out participation and labeling solutions/medications on the sterile field. Handling of specimens, including proper labeling, transport, and logging of specimens in the lab. Medication safety with proper patient identification, hand hygiene, medication reconciliation, patient medication education. Documents patient condition, assessment findings, and physical/psychosocial responses to nursing intervention and progress towards problem resolution. Initiates emergency resuscitative measures according to adult resuscitation and advanced life support protocols. Maintains confidentiality as well as providing care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the patient’s and family’s diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity and rights
