About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in an orthopaedic office will be responsible for providing high-quality clinical care and support to patients in an outpatient setting. The nurse will assist physicians with patient exams, pre- and post-operative care, provide patient education, and ensure the efficient operation of the orthopaedic practice. The ideal candidate will have experience in orthopaedics or related healthcare fields, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to patient care.

Requirements

  • Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in [State].
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) may be preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in an orthopedic or clinical setting.
  • Knowledge of orthopedic procedures, anatomy, and patient care standards is highly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in using Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
  • Ability to educate and support patients through medical procedures and recovery.
  • Ability to lift and move patients as needed.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, bend, and reach.
  • Ability to handle medical equipment and instruments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in patient assessments and document medical histories.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures.
  • Provide care to post-surgical patients, including dressing changes, wound care, and medication administration.
  • Monitor patients’ responses to treatments and report changes to the physician.
  • Administer prescribed medications and injections as directed by physicians.
  • Assist physicians in performing minor procedures such as casting, splinting, joint injections, or aspiration.
  • Prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment for orthopedic procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment in exam rooms and patient care areas.
  • Assist with pre-operative assessments, including patient education on procedures and recovery.
  • Educate patients on injury prevention, post-operative care, rehabilitation, and follow-up appointments.
  • Provide guidance on medication management, including potential side effects and how to administer medication.
  • Assist patients in understanding orthopedic conditions, treatment options, and the importance of physical therapy or exercise regimens.
  • Schedule patient appointments, assist with patient flow, and ensure timely care delivery.
  • Document patient interactions in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Coordinate with insurance providers for pre-authorizations and approval of procedures.
  • Ensure accurate and timely billing and coding for services provided.
  • Work closely with the orthopedic team, including physicians, physician assistants, and physical therapists.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing clear instructions and answering any questions they may have.
  • Coordinate follow-up appointments and ensure patients understand post-care instructions.
