About The Position

The Specialty Care Outpatient Staff Nurse (RN)/ CT SCAN- MRI position is located within the Specialty Clinics of the Nursing and Ambulatory Care Service at the Miami VA Healthcare System. The RN functions under the Associate Director for Patient Care Services and plays a key role in delivering high-quality outpatient specialty care to Veterans. The Registered Nurse, Outpatient Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in the unit/program level quality improvement process and initiatives as well as customer service programs. Specialty Care Outpatient CT SCAN- MRI Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing proficient, evidence-based specialty care to assigned patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the clinic setting. This nurse provides patient care, care coordination, health promotion, health education and coaching on wellness, disease prevention, and chronic care management. The nurse will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization. Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic, specialty care through collaborative strategies with others. Evaluates practice in an ongoing process, based on best evidence. Provides peers with informal constructive feedback for improvement. Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals. Contributes professional nursing perspective in discussions with the interdisciplinary team. Partners with others to effect change and produce optimal outcomes. Supports colleagues through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality specialty nursing care. Shares educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers. This position may require travel to various locations (e.g., Broward outpatient center, CBOCs, conferences). The Registered Nurse Specialty clinic works in multiple clinics and has specialized skills. Will be crossed trained in multiple specialty clinic and will functions as a charge nurse/team leader. Responsibilities

  • Ensure all instruments are stocked, set up clinic per specialized procedure, and educate the patient and family.
  • Complete clinical reminders and encounter forms. Adhere to SOP for reusable equipment.
  • Triages all patients (clinical reminders & encounter forms) Vital signs including 02 Saturation, Weight, and Height.
  • Administer allergy shots. Monitor patients after injections are given.
  • Complete vaccination and Antibiotics as per orders and assist provider with examination as indicated.
  • Perform desensitization tests as ordered. Read test results with doctor.
  • Treat reactions as ordered/medications kept in allergy fridge.
  • Order allergens, update medications Reinforce - patient remains in clinic area 30 minutes after each allergy treatment.
  • Questions clinical practices for the purpose of providing evidence-based care.
  • Participates in activities and strategies to sustain an evidence-based-practice culture
  • Knowledge of puncture biopsies, filling Nitrogen canisters, operation of the hyfrecator and dressing change.
  • Scrub the list of scheduled patients for FBS and call the patients a day prior to provide instructions about NPO on the day of procedure. Administers Hepatitis series.
  • Scrub the list, Assist to get medication from the pharmacy. Draw blood as per providers request for PRP.
  • Knowledge of CT SCAN/ MRI
