VCU Health at The Fredericksburg Adult Multispecialty Clinic is a dynamic multispecialty clinic primarily focused on surgical services. It provides care to individuals in Fredericksburg and the surrounding areas including Northern Virginia and the Northern Neck. Providers treat adult patients in areas such as cardiac surgery, colon and rectal surgery, advanced heart failure, adult congenital heart disease, cardio-oncology, hepatology with a focus on treatment of hepatitis, ostomy care, urology, liver and kidney transplant, and transplant surgery. The clinic also performs walk-in lab services for adult VCU patients. The clinical team includes RNs, LPNs, and CMAs. The clinic operates Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 4:30 PM, with staff working 5 - 8-hour shifts per week. It is a growing clinic adding more providers and potentially more specialties. The role of a Clinical Nurse (RN) involves demonstrating mastery of clinical skills (Clinical Nurse II) or clinical knowledge (Clinical Nurse III) and applying this to a specific patient population. Clinical Nurse II assists the healthcare team with illness/injury prevention, wellness maintenance, and comfort provision, recognizing and intervening in patient changes, mobilizing resources, and providing direction, education, and leadership at the unit level. Clinical Nurse III also assists with illness/injury prevention, wellness maintenance, and comfort provision, but anticipates changes, intervenes appropriately, and serves as a role model in a clinical setting. Both levels deliver and accurately document direct, age-specific care based on medical orders and multidisciplinary plans, and safely administer prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions.
