About The Position

Sentara Health is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Emergency Department (ED) team at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. This is a full-time position with weekend night shifts from 7 PM to 7 AM. The RN is responsible for providing competent nursing care, utilizing the critical thinking model of the nursing process, and adhering to professional standards of practice and performance. The Emergency Department is a 41-bed Level III Trauma Center, including 6 beds for psychiatric screening and treatment. It is a stroke-certified ED, treating approximately 150 patients daily, and is equipped with a dedicated radiology suite for plain film and CT imaging. Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital is a 273-bed facility, recognized as an accredited Primary Stroke Center and a Magnet hospital for nursing excellence, specializing in various advanced clinical services including heart, vascular, neuroscience, orthopedics, cancer care, and behavioral health. Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
  • Virginia or compact multistate Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Experienced Registered Nurse in a hospital setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher preferred.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred.
  • Experience in an Emergency Department (ED) highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
  • Conduct patient assessment.
  • Formulate nursing diagnoses.
  • Identify patient outcomes.
  • Plan patient care.
  • Implement patient care.
  • Coordinate patient care, including teaching and health promotion.
  • Evaluate patient care.
  • Adhere to standards of professional performance including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.
  • Possess clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
