About The Position

This position provides comprehensive nursing care to patients on the Adolescent Inpatient Unit, utilizing the full nursing process including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The Registered Nurse directs and leads other assigned team members and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to deliver age and developmentally appropriate care in adherence to nursing standards and MUSC policies. The role emphasizes patient/family-centered care, addressing physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs. Key aspects include maintaining a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment, ensuring patient privacy, and demonstrating professional behavior. The RN is expected to function within a professional practice model, actively participating in shared governance, adhering to standards of care, engaging in peer review, and pursuing professional development to promote leadership and clinical excellence. This involves effective team skills, autonomous practice, accountability for actions, and critical thinking. The position also involves coordinating efficient patient care services through care management principles, identifying clinical priorities, and initiating actions to improve patient outcomes, while fostering a healthy work environment and taking personal responsibility for professional growth.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree
  • Minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification

Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing care to patients using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation).
  • Directs and leads other assigned team members.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to provide age/developmentally appropriate care in accordance with nursing standards of care and practice.
  • Provide patient/family centered care using the nursing process and focusing on the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs.
  • Provides for the assessment, development of nursing diagnoses, outcome identification, planning, implementation of interventions, coordination of care, health teaching and promotion and evaluation of goals and interventions consistent with the policies of MUSC.
  • Maintains a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment through ensuring patient privacy and responsive, respectful, accepting, and professional behavior.
  • Demonstrates the ability to function in a professional setting through active participation in a professional practice model.
  • Participates in shared governance, adherence to standards of care, participation in peer review and professional development promoting leadership and clinical excellence, effective team skills, autonomous practice and acknowledgment of accountability for actions and critical thinking.
  • Coordinates the effective and efficient delivery of patient care services through the application of care management principles.
  • Identifies clinical priorities and initiates action to improve patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrates ability to function in a professional practice model through active participation in shared governance, promotion of a healthy work environment and acceptance of personal responsibility for professional growth.
